ITINERARY
Highway of El Llano del Beal - Collado de Julio César – El Llano

We begin our way in the highway of Portmán, parking our vehicle in the same place as the routes 4 and 5, to the beginning of the highway of El Llano. On having begun the highway of ground, we see to our left side Los Polvorines and we begin to walk toward El Llano, seeing on both sides young sabines. To our left side, in all the slope, we see as the sabines stand out between small pines, born after the fire, hapened already severals years ago.
The (Tetraclinis articulata) belongs to the family of the Cupresaceae, being it principal characteristic that sprouts after burned, on the other hand it has a lot of difficulty to reproduce by seeds. This is the opposite of what happens to the pine carrasco.

To our left side we leave a raft, a way with chain, an indicator of danger and prohibited the step, because we can find wells or mined in bad conditions. This way was taking to the mine Segundo Pensamiento.

The miners who inhabited with their families the small houses that existed next to the mine descended each three or four days to Atamaría, to shop in the existing store and they transported it with aid of a donkey.

To our right hand we leave casa de Agustin, (before Los Patricios) and further on, to the left side, we find a way closed by a chain and with an indicator of prohibited the step, which was used to gain access to the mine of Santo Tomás, La Secretaria, La Loba and other existing in La Peña del Águila.
It turns out to be dangerous to approach these mines for the bad state of conservation of wells and dependencies, as thus the indicator of Danger next to the highway reflects us - Mined and Prohibited the step.
In several points of the Saw there existed ovens destined to burn manganese (especially called bones) in order to enrich it.
The process was the following one: in the base of the oven dry wood was placed, together with coal of cok and on her stones of medium size that were allowing the step of the air, next it gravel and above one was throwing the manganese. They tell that it was detaching a strong smell to sulfur, due to the combustion of the compounds of this mineral.

Continuing our way we will stop to the left side La Teresita , which it supplied of water to the Llano for enough years, and we arrive to the highest point of our trip, el Collado de Julio César.

In the Collado two ways leave:
·        That of the left side was taking to the mines La Loba, La Secretaria, etc.
·        That of the right side was taking up to the mine El Lirio.

This Collado is the suitable place to contemplate the Peña del Águila of 389 meters of altitude, the mills of the wind head office and the landscape.

We continue up to El Llano contemplating the mining landscape that surrounds it, with its mines as Julio César, El Mento, La Paz, La Asturiana, etc.

And we arrive to the end to our trip in a crossing of three ways:
That of the center brings us over to El Llano del Beal, that of the left side to the Union and that of the right side was use by the mining company to transport the mineral from the quarry of Los Blancos to the laundry room, and that gave rise to serious incidents between the neighbors of El Llano and the company of Peñarroya, in the decade of the nineties, due to the proximity of the quarry to the people.

       Plants of the route:
·        Sea Squill(Urginea maritima), of the family of the Liliaceae that it blooms in autumn.
·        Tree tobacco (Nicotiana glauca) of the family of the Solanaceae.
·        (Bellardia trixago), of the family of the Labiatae that it blooms in spring.
·        Syrian beau caper (Zigophillum fabago), very abundant plant that also blooms in spring.
·        Lavender-leaved sun-rose (Helianthemum syriacum) of the family of the Cistaceae.
·        (Capparis ovata), of the family of the Caparidaceae.
·        Common caper bus (Centaurium quadrifolium), plant of great beauty of the family of the Gentianaceae.
·        Esparto grass (Stipa tenacisima), of the family of the Gramineae.

And alone remains us to return to the starting point.
